Nadezhda Khvoshchinskaya at Pushkin House

April 12, 2023

This Sunday, April 16th, at 1:00pm London time (8:00am in New York, 7:00am in Chicago, 5:00am in California), Pushkin House is hosting an in-person and online event called “Translating Russia’s Greatest Forgotten Novelist: Nadezhda Khvoshchinskaya (1821–1889).” Nora Favorov, Anastassia Kostrioukova, and Karen Rosneck are going to read from their translations of The Brother, The First Struggle, and Ursa Major, respectively, and I’m going to read from the translation of The Meeting that first appeared on this blog. This is part of a whole series of events that Anna Berman and Hilde Hoogenboom have been organizing to celebrate Khvoshchinskaya’s bicentennial. You’re all most welcome to come!
