The Idiot on BBC Radio 4 Extra

April 18, 2013

The BBC is replaying its 2010 radio drama of Dostoevskii’s The Idiot (Идиот, 1868) in four one-hour episodes. At the moment you can listen to all four, but they start expiring on Sunday or Monday (the BBC makes these things available for a week, and after that you have to wait until they replay them again). If you’d rather have it in Russian, here’s a Soviet film adaptation (Ivan Pyr’ev, 1958). I still haven’t seen the 2003 version for Russian television (Vladimir Bortko), but I think it made a surprisingly strong impression on people.

Akira Kurosawa (1951) and Andrzej Wajda (1994) also made movies based on The Idiot.
